Peter Kennedy and his Ghosts (2017)
Peter is probably my oldest friend. We were near neighbours and went to art lessons together at the Brisbane Technical College as children and teenagers. We did life classes together and collaborated at University on Peter’s design work for Dramsoc. Peter went on to become (and remain) one of Australia’s leading conceptual and neon artists. His works are held in all our major galleries as well as the Tate in London. When he first contracted cancer, which he has lived with now for many, many years it was thought that it would be quickly fatal. However, as a result of the application of then cutting edge medical techniques he is now one of the longest living survivors and has continued to create. He has made created artworks in which his own ghost appears so it seemed natural for me to do the same when I came to commemorate our friendship.
