Venice Backwater (2017)

These houses are in a district of Venice where many of the artisans who service the city still live. They show how buildings continually evolve to cope with the salt and rising water level. None of the external walls are vertical – the building structure is supported by an internal network of wooden piles driven deep into the mud.
