Bold Gerbera (2017)

This is a bold, large painting. I painted the gerbera in a series of studies starting from life. I have positioned it in a dramatic landscape with a distinctly Australian feel. In this series I am aiming to fuse an almost Baroque concern for powerful colour and accuracy in the depiction of the blooms – think of the Dutch Golden Age – with a turbulent Romantic background often in shades of grey (grisaille).

It has been sold to one of my collectors who missed out (through indecision over which to buy) on opening night at my 2015 exhibition.
